I'll switch to intellij if I am working on a new feature that needs extensive coverage, or if I am working on a large refactor. TLDR: I love vscode for remote development, quick prototyping, and light development. Doesn't have consistent features between languages. Generally easier to use and configure.Ĭons: Plugins can be buggy, or missing desired features. Much better for light development, or running code snippets. Pros: Very lightweight Great for remote development with the new remote extensions. Initial setup of projects can be confusing. Code coverage and testing tools are far superior.Ĭons: Uses WAAY too much CPU/RAM. Most everything comes without adding plugins. Pros: refactoring tools are much more powerful. My review is not based on a pure JS stack. I do a lot of full stack development, and use quite a few languages on a regular basis. I don't use webstorm, but intellij, which has all of the same features. It is maintained by the community as much as Microsoft itself. Can you chaps give us any feedback? Is it still slow? How you can compare the two with feature wise but please dont forget to count community plugins as features as well because that's the whole point of VS Code. You can basically add & remove what you want and don't want.Īs a person from the VS Code side of the fence I really wonder how it is to be in the WebStorm side of the fence. I always loved modular applications for this reason. So you wont have tons of plugins slowing you down if you want them. It starts as an editor but you can turn that cat into a lion if you want to and the wonderful thing is, IT'S OPTIONAL. It's fast, light-weight, modular, open source. Now I recently started using VS Code and loved it too. Atom is an editor WebStorm is a giant IDE. It was blazing fast and soooo light-weight(probably due to it being an editor rather an IDE.) Now I am aware we cant compare the two. Now I used WebStorm free trial 2 or 3(cant really remember) years ago and loved it's features but hated it's slowness. I know that almost eveery java script developer migrated to VSCode especially if they are full-stack. Select the Wi-Fi Channel and channel Width to sniff and capture packets for, using the wi-fi network stumbler tool can be helpful to identify which channels and widths to sniff network traffic for, then click “Start”.Ignore the splash screen and pull down the “Window” menu, choose “Sniffer” from the list of options in the Wireless Diagnostics menu.Choose “Open Wireless Diagnostics” from the list to open the wi-fi utility.Option+Click on the Wi-Fi menu item in the OS X menu bar. This process will automatically disconnect from any active wireless network and transmission on the Mac, instead dedicating the Macs wi-fi card to sniff wireless network traffic and to capture detected data into a packet transfer file. I hope this info was helpful to you and I encourage you to share your experiences as well. How to Sniff Packets with Wireless Diagnostics in OS X Neither takes up significant resources and they both have a place in my torrent toolbox. In addition to choosing Transmission, I am also leaving uTorrent for Mac installed. Whereas the Mac version of uTorrent may always lag behind the more popular Windows version when it comes to features and development. Whereas Transmission fits into the landscape perfectly.Īs Keith pointed out in the comments below, Transmission also has a longer history on Mac OSX and they seem to really focus on pushing the limits for the Mac version. But on Mac OSX uTorrent just does not fit in, it does not quite belong in Apple-Land. However, especially in older versions, it is not a streamlined simple interface. When I use Windows I personally tend do more complex things and at those times I prefer the control/info that uTorrent offers in plain vie. This conclusion (choosing Transmission) really came as a surprise to me. The complexity is hidden and with the “keep it simple” mantra I find myself not even digging into the options that I often play with on uTorrent for Windows. When I use a Mac I try to keep things simple, Transmission is a very simple and streamlined interface that makes downloading torrents easy. If I had to choose one I would choose Transmission. Thankfully these are both great torrent apps for use on Mac OSX Lion. This really comes down to individual user preference but I generally like more info rather than less so for me uTorrent gets the nod. Transmission is very minimalistic and “Mac like” while uTorrent provides you with loads of information. User InterfaceĮach client takes a totally different approach to user interface and content presentation. Transmission open source and is available on Mac, GTK+ and Qt as well as being ported to a variety of platforms. UTorrent is readily available on Windows and Mac. uTorrent gets a small win here since I prefer its speed reporting and graphing capabilities vs. Speeds were comparable, neither provided an extreme DL boost compared to the other. Neither had any problems solidly downloading a variety of legal torrents. Performance:īoth clients performed admirably in my tests. However, the next time I am doing development work in my VMWare Mac OSX installation I will try to take screenshots and update the article. *Note: I returned my MacBook Air so I have not been able to add the screenshots and UI comparisons that I wanted to. The top candidates: uTorrent and Transmission WANTED – a good Torrent client for Macįirst up, a good Torrent client. So I did what I never thought I would, I bought a Mac.Īfter all that, I will get to the point… since I am playing with Mac OSX a bit (before probably switching to Win 7 on bootcamp or VMWare Fusion) I need replacements for some of my “go to” apps. Well, they re-added the backlit keyboard and they also put in some spicy new CPUs and nice big SSD options. I had known the MacBook Airs were good little computers for quite some time, but after they did away with the backlit keyboard a while back I scratched them off of my “short list” of top notebook. It is the best ultralight travel computer I could find. Specifically a MacBook Air 11.6″ notebook. The top candidates: uTorrent and Transmission. Transmission is a great torrent application for Mac. It’s simple to use and free (we’re not paid to say this). In this article, we’ll tell you about our favorite application, Transmission. There are various torrent applications available for Mac users. Each is used to download and share files over the internet and each Mac BitTorrent client offers something different. Torrent clients enable you to download torrent files or use torrent magnet links. If you ever decide you need to unhide one or more of the hidden usernames, use this command: sudo defaults delete /Library/Preferences/com.apple. That’s what you’ll need to type in with your commands in Terminal. Next, you can Option-click or two-finger click (depending on whether you’re on a trackpad, or what-have-you) on a username to bring up an Advanced Options menu. If not, click it, and type in your password to unlock the panel. Once in that panel, check if the lock in the bottom left corner is unlocked. Just start typing “users & gro…” into Spotlight. If you are not sure what the username is (which is unlikely) you can obtain it from the Users & Groups settings in System Preferences. You can deselect the various classes of user (admin, local, etc.) or tick a box next to the name(s) of those you wish to hide. The setting you are looking for is in the under FEATURES and the Login. Un-tick them all, if you don’t want any showing up. In OnyX I suspect what you need to select is the Parameters page, then Login. Tinkertool is another free option, although it has a fairly limited range of settings, and doesn’t have one for disabling the display of usernames on the login screen. MacPilot is one, although ridiculously (considering it’s an app most people are likely to use a few times initially, and then rarely, if ever, use again) expensive at $29.95-needless to say, I don’t recommend it. There are also system tweaking tools that allow you to do this without using Terminal. sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/ HiddenUsersList -array-add user1 user2 If you only have one, just replace “user1 user2” with it. You can list one after the other, with no commas. The Big Mac Bundle from Bundlehunt Read More Photo Koingo Mac Essentials Bundle. You’ll need to change user1 and user2 to the usernames you wish to hide. September seems to be a good month for bundles Here comes the next one. You’ll need to bring up Terminal.app (just type Term… into Spotlight and Terminal will show up in there).Ĭopy and paste in the following command. Developer: Koingo Software License / Price: Shareware / US19. It makes it that much harder for someone to hack into your computer if they don’t know what any of the usernames are, especially if you also encrypt the hard drive. MacPilot enable and change hidden features/settings in Mac OS X easily. Why would you want to hide the usernames from your login screen? Perhaps you wouldn’t. Anyway… here’s how to prevent usernames displaying on your login screen. I’ve not had them displaying on my past OS X version(s) for as long as I can remember, but I am not sure how I turned that off. Looking in the Users & Groups Preferences I see there’s only an option to display the usernames in a list or as icons, but no way to turn them off. After upgrading from OS X 10.8.x to 10.10.2 recently, I noticed the login screen had reverted to displaying the usernames. "If Stoic lawyered up, King could (and I stress “could” – we’ve no evidence that they would) bleed them dry of every last cent before anything got anywhere, and it wouldn’t be a blip in King’s accounts."Īnd that leaves Stoic in a quandary, and just as confused as the rest of us. However absurd this trademark fight may be, Stoic simply can't afford to go toe-to-toe without going bankrupt in the process. King can easily bankroll a legal fight against a tiny indie studio. They’ve blocked our trademark and extended the deadline for the opposition twice so that we are unable to have the rights to the name.”Īs Walker also notes, the real problem for Stoic boils down to finances. “We currently have a trademark filed for “The Banner Saga”, which we submitted before filed for the word “Saga”. Stoic even noted, in a statement to RPS, that their trademark application for The Banner Saga predates King's trademark application for the word "saga." So which is it? Is The Banner Saga trying to build on King's brand or content, which King denies, or are they attempting something "deceptively similar" which King claims? It's difficult to see how both can be true.Īs Rock Paper Shotgun's John Walker points out, myriad games over the years have included the word "saga" in the title, most of which predate Candy Crush Saga by years. “Applicant’s THE BANNER SAGA mark is confusingly and deceptively similar to Opposer’s previously used SAGA Marks.” What doesn't make sense is how little this statement aligns with King's Notice of Opposition: All of these titles have already faced substantive trademark and copyright issues with clones.” This is an important issue for King because we already have a series of games where “Saga” is key to the brand which our players associate with a King game Candy Crush Saga, Bubble Witch Saga, Pet Rescue Saga, Farm Heroes Saga and so on. If we had not opposed Banner Saga’s trade mark application, it would be much easier for real copy cats to argue that their use of “Saga” was legitimate. In this case, that means preserving our ability to enforce our rights in cases where other developers may try to use the Saga mark in a way which infringes our IP rights and causes player confusion. However, like any prudent company, we need to take all appropriate steps to protect our IP, both now and in the future. We do not have any concerns that Banner Saga is trying build on our brand or our content. “King has not and is not trying to stop Banner Saga from using its name. In terms of the total number of transistors in existence, it has been estimated that a total of 13 sextillion ( 1.3 ×10 22) transistors have been manufactured worldwide between 19. The first carbon nanotube computer has 178 transistors and is a 1-bit one-instruction set computer, while a later one is 16-bit (while the instruction set is 32-bit RISC-V). Early experimental solid state computers had as few as 130 transistors, but used large amounts of diode logic. In terms of computer systems that consist of numerous integrated circuits, the supercomputer with the highest transistor count as of 2016 is the Chinese-designed Sunway TaihuLight, which has for all CPUs/nodes combined "about 400 trillion transistors in the processing part of the hardware" and "the DRAM includes about 12 quadrillion transistors, and that's about 97 percent of all the transistors." To compare, the smallest computer, as of 2018 dwarfed by a grain of rice, has on the order of 100,000 transistors. As of 2020, the highest transistor count in any IC chip is a deep learning engine called the Wafer Scale Engine 2 by Cerebras, using a special design to route around any non-functional core on the device it has 2.6 trillion MOSFETs, manufactured using TSMC's 7 nm FinFET process. As of 2019, the highest transistor count in any IC chip was Samsung's 1 terabyte eUFS ( 3D-stacked) V-NAND flash memory chip, with 2 trillion floating-gate MOSFETs ( 4 bits per transistor). As of 2022, the highest transistor count GPU is Nvidia's H100, built on TSMC's N4 process and totalling 80 billion MOSFETs. Īs of 2022, the largest transistor count in a commercially available microprocessor is 114 billion transistors, in Apple's ARM-based dual-die M1 Ultra system on a chip, which is fabricated using TSMC's 5 nm semiconductor manufacturing process. The rate at which MOS transistor counts have increased generally follows Moore's law, which observed that the transistor count doubles approximately every two years. It is the most common measure of IC complexity (although the majority of transistors in modern microprocessors are contained in the cache memories, which consist mostly of the same memory cell circuits replicated many times). The transistor count is the number of transistors in an electronic device. Mosaic tiles have continued to be a highly regarded decorative art form, continually in use from the Middle Ages through to the Renaissance and up to the present day.Ĭontemporary uses of mosaic tiles reflect their versatility and adaptability, in a broad range of settings and locations.Īnd modern mosaic tiles are very much a democratic form of design. Mosaic art progressed to using small tiles after the fall of the Roman empire, especially in intricate Byzantine and Moroccan art. The Romans made wide use of the mosaic technique to decorate vast areas of flooring with mythological characters and symbols. The Greeks helped to define mosaic art as being increasingly decorative and complex. Mosaic art dates back centuries, as far as ancient Mesopotamia in around 3,000 BC.įrom its earliest use, mosaic tiling has been a valued means of decorating surfaces. We have vintage Moroccan tile designs, colours and designs that are nature-inspired, plus glamorous and luxe tile finishes. Our collection consists of mosaic tiles made from: Mosaic tiles have a high visual impact and they offer numerous possibilities for turning your interiors into unique design statements. The results are transformative and mesmerising. The idea is a simple one: you combine multiple motifs, colour shades and contrasting textures. Mosaic tiles bring this decorative principle into the world of contemporary interior design. A mosaic is a pattern or design made up of small pieces of coloured ceramics, glass or stone.
